On 19 September 2008 Sony launched PlayTV so now you can watch and record Freeview through your PlayStation 3

PlayTV from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, is a tiny black box that gives your PLAYSTATION®3 the functionality of a state-of-the-art TV tuner and Personal Video Recorder (PVR). Want to watch, pause and record live TV chosen from up to 48 Freeview digital TV channels? No problem. Want to record a programme whilst watching another even playing a game? PlayTV can do that too. There’s no need for video tapes either - PS3 will save your programme straight to its hard drive.

PlayTV makes family TV viewing easy and hassle-free. Imagine an end to those squabbles about who wants to watch what – now, you can just record one programme while you watch another. Need to put your youngest to bed halfway through your movie? No problem - just pause the live programme. Want to watch the latest show but can’t find the time when it’s showing? Just set the Electronic Programme Guide to record the episode. You can even stream live or recorded TV from your PS3 directly to a PSP™ for the kids to watch when you’re on holiday.
