Wednesday 2nd December saw the technical launch of Freeview HD. The BBC HD and ITV 1 HD transmission is now live from the TV masts in London (Crystal Palace) and the Granada TV region (Winter Hill).

• Freeview is now the first choice for TV in 10 million of the UK’s 25 million households.
  
  

• Freeview+ launched in 2008 and almost 2 million boxes have been sold to date. And next year the very first Freeview HD box will go on sale, shortly followed by Freeview+ HD, with more to come in the future.
  
  

Freeview HD will not only deliver bigger and better quality television for millions of viewers, it will help create an even stronger and more competitive market for the manufacturers and retailers who are so important to the ongoing success of Freeview.

So with Freeview HD available to around 50% of the country by the World Cup, here's looking forward to a watching it in the highest definition, and hopefully (Fabio Capello are you listening?) the highest spirits.
