Freeview Focus on...Kate Walsh

Freeview Focus on...Kate Walsh

4 April 2011

We caught up with the lovely Kate Walsh, OK! TV presenter and former contestant of The Apprentice, to talk about the Royal Wedding, her love for Sex and the City and the potential return of Big Brother.

1. Tell us about OK! TV

OK! TV is the best place for daily celebrity news & gossip. I host the show alongside the lovely Matt Johnson and in a nutshell, we talk about fashion, relationships, music, TV & film.

2. You’ve been fired by Lord Alan Sugar in The Apprentice, fronted Live from Studio Five and interviewed a whole host of celebrities for OK! TV – what is the standout moment of your TV career so far?

When the Sex and the City Movie came out, I flew all the way to New York to interview the cast of Sex & the City for Live from Studio Five. It’s my favourite TV show ever and doing it was a literally a dream come true!

3.What is your ‘Top TV’ moment from the past year?

Seeing William & Kate talk about their engagement for the first time on BBC News. They are such a charming couple and I was so pleased that Wills finally ‘put a ring on it'!

4. What television series, old or new, do you think of as ‘Unmissable TV’ and why?

It has to be Sex & the City (currently repeated on Channel 5). The characters are amazing, the fashion is fabulous and storylines are fantastic. A lot of women are able to relate to the series and I've laughed & cried with Carrie and co. time and time again!

5. Tell us what shows you are watching or recording at the moment?

The Mentalist on Channel 5 is brilliant. I also love cookery programmes and anything food related so I'm watching the latest Heston  Blumenthal & Hairy Biker Series on Channel 4.

I really enjoyed watching Human Planet on BBC One, especially in HD, so I was gutted when that finished. I am also a massive fan of films and I love nothing more than watching a good movie on a Sunday evening.

6. Which presenter would you most like to work with and why?

I would have to say my delightful co-host Matt Johnson. We hit it off straight away and genuinely get on really well. We are like brother and sister which is a great working relationship.

7. Tell us your guilty TV pleasure?

I adore my reality TV and I am going to stand up and say that it’s nothing to feel guilty about anymore! I am loving Great British Hairdresser and Snog, Marry, Avoid on BBC Three at the moment. I am also a fan of ITV1’s May the Best House Win and of course, Big brother, which I'm hoping will come back this year on Channel 5!

8. Who was your childhood TV hero and why?

I'm sure if I watched it now it would be horrendous but as a young girl my hero was Superwoman. She-ra was my cartoon hero - I love a girl that kicks ass!

9. When was the last time TV made you cry?

It would have been the news recently. I generally don't cry at anything fictional as I'm a pretty tough cookie. I do try to avoid the sad real-life shows as I'm not very good at dealing with devastating stories. I feel for them too much.

10. Now Freeview HD is available, which part of your body would you least likely to see in high definition?

Watching shows in HD is great but I am not so keen on its unforgiving glare! I would have to say my face, especially if I’ve got an outbreak of spots!

OK! TV is on weekdays at 6.25pm on Channel 5.

Best of OK! TV, the weekly highlights, starts Sunday April 10th at 10.15am.
