From Tennis to Tour De France, Racing to Rugby, Freeview has a complete summer of sport for you to enjoy in HD, subscription-free.

A full summer of subscription-free sport is about to sweep across Freeview and Freeview HD homes around the UK. Freeview HD will be hosting the best sporting highlights in high definition with a series of staple British events and worldwide championships across the Freeview HD channels. Wimbledon, The  British Grand Prix, The British Open, The World Athletics Championships, The Tour de France, The Super Cup and the Rugby World Cup, in stunning HD and without the worry of monthly bills or subscription costs.

Wimbledon, the centre piece of the British summer, is currently on BBC HD and BBC One HD, and Andy Murray looks set to build on his recent French Open semi-final and Queen’s victory by competing for his first career Grand Slam. The Wimbledon men’s and women’s finals will begin on July 2nd, and for the first time on Freeview HD, they’ll be broadcast in 3D on the BBC HD channel. The 3D trial will allow Freeview HD homes with 3DTVs the opportunity to get closer to the action than ever before.

Tour de France 2011

Over on ITV1 HD on 2nd July, the Tour de France begins and the three-week race starts for world’s most determined cyclists as they battle it out each day for the coveted yellow jersey medal. Covering 2,200 miles, the cyclists will brave the terrains of France, passing through an impressive 21 stages.

Formula One  makes its way to the UK on 10th July with The British Grand Prix where Lewis Hamilton plans to undo the damage of his disappointing race in Canada and close the gap on Sebastian Vettel . In football, this season’s conquerors of Europe are set to contest the UEFA Super Cup in Monaco on August 26th, live on Freeview HD, on ITV1 HD, as UEFA Europa League victors, Porto, take on UEFA Champions League winners, Barcelona, in an attempt to outshine one of the greatest club teams the football world has ever seen.

The biggest stars in golf come together for The British Open at Royal St. George in Kent from 13th-17th July, while in a first for Channel 4 HD, a major warm up for the 2012 Olympics starts in Korea with the IAAF World Athletics Championship from 27th August.

As the Great British summer starts to draw to a close and we prepare for an autumn of entertainment, Freeview’s attention finally turns to New Zealand for the biggest international sporting spectacle of the year, the Rugby World Cup,  from 9th September on ITV1 HD.

There’s a new selection of Freeview+ HD boxes that offer huge storage options for you to store your HD recordings.
