Aerials and Reception

Understanding transmitters

When your aerial was installed it would have been pointed at the closest transmitter to receive the four or five main TV channels available before digital. Most people will find that they can receive Freeview from the same transmitter, especially in big towns and cities. During the digital switchover process the smaller transmitters covering more rural parts of the country will also be able to broadcast the Freeview service.

You can find out with our coverage checker if you can get Freeview now. If not then it will let you know your transmitter’s digital switchover date. It might also suggest that a better service is available if you point your aerial towards a different transmitter – a qualified local aerial installer will be able to advise you.
