More information on adult channels

Under the terms of the current Ofcom code, the DTT multiplex licence operators have an obligation to carry licensed TV channels (including including adult themed channels which promote premium rate telephone services). This is standard for all TV platforms including Freesat, Sky and Virgin.

If you do not want to access these channels, you can hide them by changing the parental lock settings on your Freeview box or TV. The process to do this varies from box to box and TV to TV.

For full instructions on how to hide or lock adult themed channels, please check the user manual for your equipment.  If you no longer have this document to hand, make a note of the model number and contact the manufacturer for further advice.  A list of customer support telephone numbers are listed on the product manufacturers support page .

You will need to re-activate the parental settings every time you are required to retune your Freeview box or TV.  To check if there’s a retune event that will affect you in the future, please visit www.tvretune.co.uk  .

Update

On 16 April 2012,  adult channels on Freeview moved to single block towards the end of the channel list.  These channels are moving to address an immediate concern that has been raised by Ofcom about the current split of the Adult block into two parts and the current location of the Local TV genre after the Adult channels. Ofcom has asked that DMOL address this promptly to ensure compliance with the BCAP Code (the UK Code of Broadcast Advertising).

Viewers may need to retune their Freeview TV or box to continue viewing certain adult channels.
