Week 4 Round Up: Freeview News and TV Highlights

The week ahead according to Freeview...
Saturday
If you’re a Martin Clunes fan or a Doc Martin novice, ITV3 will be showing the first series again, kicking off with episode one at 8pm. Clunes plays Martin, a surgeon with a fear of blood who becomes a GP instead. The comedy also stars Caroline Catz.
Dave have brought a brand new US series to Freeview with Suits, a legal drama that tells the stories of two lawyers but only one of which has a degree. If you missed the first episode this week, Dave will be showing it again from 8pm.
It’s the last in series for Live at the Apollo at 9.30pm on BBC One and BBC One HD. This week’s stand-up line-up includes Shappi Khorsandi and guest host Jack Whitehall.
Sunday
There’s a new series of Time Team, hosted by Tony Robinson, from 6pm on Channel 4 and Channel 4 HD. The first episode of 11 will see Tony and his team of archaeologists will be digging up the ground to unearth secrets of Roman and Viking times.
BBC Two and BBC HD will be showing a new four-part series looking at the history of exploration trips around the world. The first episode focuses on David Livingstone, an explorer of Africa who died in the 1800s. The Last Explorers starts at 6pm.
BBC will be serving up a long-awaited two-part drama at 9pm, set around the First World War. Birdsong is an adaptation of Sebastian Faulks’ book and stars Eddie Redmayne and Clemence Posey.
Monday
The SuperScrimpers are back from 8pm on Channel 4 and Channel 4 HD, the team that penny pinch and cut back when it comes to spending. The new five-part series begins with secrets to money saving but looking stylish on a budget.
Channel 4 and Channel 4 HD will also be showing a new three-part series that looks at the paramedics who clean up after the party. Drunk patients and boozy revellers, this team of medics pick up the pieces each week when the Colchester clan have too much to drink. Party Paramedics starts at 10pm.
Skins returns to E4 for a brand new series at 10pm. The teen drama kicks off with the gang on holiday in sunny Morocco – which means three things for the Skin’s crew: sex, drugs and rock and roll.
Tuesday
It’s a hospital-themed night on TV this Tuesday as BBC Three will be showing a new series of Junior Doctors: Your Life in Their Hands at 9pm. The six-part series checks in with eight newly-qualified doctors as they cut their teeth at a London hospital. Over on More4 at the same time, the first series of One Born Every Minute is repeated if you’re enjoying the new Channel 4 series and missed it the first time around. Then, at 10pm, Confessions of a Nurse starts a new four-part series about real-life NHS nurses.
Over on BBC4 at 9pm, there’s a new three-part series looking at the wonders of the earth. Survivors: Nature’s Indestructible Creatures is fronted by Richard Fortey and he’ll be looking at how some species have lasted for millions of years.
Wednesday
The National Television Awards returns for a 2012 outing at 7.30pm on ITV1 and ITV1 HD, hosted by Dermot O’Leary. This year’s show is filmed live at The O2 and shows such as Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor are nominated for best entertainment.
Natural World is back for a new series on BBC2 and BBC HD from 8pm. This first episode of the series sees the findings of Jungle Gremlins of Java which should probably should come with a cute warning – if you like furry things.
Jodie Marsh: Bullied – My Secret Past sees the glamour model turned tattooist turned body builder confront the fears of her school days and talk about bullying. The show, at 10pm on Channel 5, looks to shed some light on the current issues of bullying around the UK.
Thursday
Karen Gillan and Aneurin Barnard star in a new 90 minute drama on BBC4 at 9pm called We’ll Take Manhattan. Set in 1962 in New York, the pair play David Baily and his muse Jean Shrimpton.
At the same time over on BBC Three, a new four-part series called Strictly Soulmates looks at the problems religious singletons face when looking for a new partner. The first episode features an Evangelical Christian hunt for their true love.
Friday
After three weeks, it’s the Celebrity Big Brother: Live Final at 9pm on Channel 5. Tune in to find out who will be crowned the winner, hosted by Brian Dowling.
There’s a brand new series of The Real Series: Celebrity Chancers with Jessica-Jane Clement at 8.30pm. Celebrities such as Boyzone’s Shane Lynch, get scammed and tricked by the hustle team. Check out the Freeview interview with Jessica-Jane here .
At 9pm on BBC4, How Brits Rocked America: Go West looks at how bands broke into the States and became global recording artists. The first episode of three looks at the 1960s and the arrival of one of music’s biggest band – The Beatles.
