Week 7 Round Up: Freeview News and TV Highlights

The TV week ahead on Freeview...

Saturday

Family Fortunes ITV1

This weekend delivers a double dose of Six Nation’s Rugby with two matches, both of which are in Freeview HD. The first match between Italy and England starts on BBC One and BBC One HD at 3.30pm. Kick off is at 4pm, live from Rome, and real rugby fans can switch over to BBC2 and BBC HD for the 2nd match of the day, France v Ireland, live from Stade de France.

Vernon Kay is back with his big, bad, tall self from 6pm on ITV1 and ITV1 HD in a new series of Family Fortunes. The first episode sees Carol Vorderman and Russell Grant with both their families battle out in the hope of winning cash for charity.

Inspector Montalbano is an Italian drama on BBC4 which starts a new series at 9pm. Yes, you’ll need to read the subtitles, but don’t let that stop you getting into the 10-part series. Think Inspector Morse but with sun, the Italian language and passionate storylines.

Sunday

Family Fortunes ITV1

BBC2 will be paying homage to the females of the UK popular music scene from 7pm. Annie Lennox, Geri Halliwell and Amy Winehouse are just some of the names that have contributed to UK music and they’ll be celebrated in this programme: Queens of British Pop.

Michelle Perera and her family have moved out of their home in Sheffield because it’s being transformed into a haven for gadget lovers in a new series for Channel 4 and Channel 4 HD. Starting at 7pm, Home of the Future is looks set to make greener, shiner homes equipped with a wealth of features such sleep machines. Yes, this really is the future.

The BAFTA’s return for a 2012 outing and BBC3 will be showing all the action from the red carpet from 7.30pm. Filmed at London’s Royal Opera House, BBC One and BBC One HD will be showing the main show from 9pm featuring the winners and their speeches.

Monday

The Diamon Queen BBC

In the lead up to Valentine’s day, BBC3 will be showing a two Don’t Tell the Bride specials starting with Don’t Tell the Bride-to-Be: the Proposals at 8pm. The looks at the proposals of men and their wives to be is followed by Don’t Tell the Bride: Valentine’s at 9pm.

It’s the second part of The Diamond Queen from 9pm on BBC One and BBC One HD. This week’s episode focuses on the Queen’s modernisation of the monarchy and features interviews with Princes Harry and William talking about their Nan.

From monarchy to murder as Channel 4 and Channel 4 HD will be showing a documentary at 10pm about America’s Serial Killer: True Stories. New York police are still on the hunt for a killer who dumped ten bodies in Long Island, four of which were sex workers.

Tuesday

Big Fat Gypsy Weddings C4

To celebrate the day of love, BBC4 will be showing Duets at the BBC from 8pm starring various loved-up performances from Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue and Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. The archive footage comes from TOTP and various live concerts throughout the years.

Big Fat Gypsy Weddings returns to Channel 4 and Channel 4 HD at 9pm in a flash of bright colours and harsh make-up. The brand new series stars a new batch of gypsy travellers as they prepare for their big day in even bigger dresses.

Jo Brand is fronting a documentary about tongue-touching at 9pm on BBC4 called Jo Brand on Kissing. The film looks at the value of the modern-day snog and the comedienne questions if the French kiss has lost its value.

Wednesday

Lowdown BBC4

ITV1 and ITV1 HD will be showing the Champions League match with AC Milan v Arsenal at 7.30pm. Tune in for kick off at 7.45pm live from San Siro, hosted by Adrian Chiles.

Take nine men, teach them how care for children with a crash course and what do you get? Daddy Daycare. The new three-part series at 8pm on Channel 4 and Channel 4 HD aims to teach the dads how to take care of the kids and puts them in situations normally left to the mum.

Lowdown is a new comedy series from Australia on BBC4 at 10.30pm about the highs and lows of setting up celebrities. The eight-part series stars Adam Zwar and Paul Denny.

Thursday

A Dad Is Born: a Wonderland Film  BBC

There’s a new series of The Great British Countryside at 8pm on BBC One and BBC One HD. Julia Bradbury teams up with comedian Hugh Dennis to explore the best of Britain’s landscapes and the hidden treasures of nature.

A Dad Is Born: a Wonderland Film at 9pm on BBC2 and BBC HD follows three men as they prepare for their partners birth and the becoming of a father. There’s no guide book for this job and it’s up to each of them to grow up and take on the big responsibility.

Friday

Baka: a Cry from the Rainforest

BBC2 and BBC HD will be showing a fascinating follow-up documentary from Baka: People of the Rainforest (on later at 12.05pm). Baka: a Cry from the Rainforest at 9pm revisits the Baka pygmy tribe 25 years later to see how they got on following the first award-winning film.

Channel will be kicking off the weekend with two new series from 9pm. First off, George Lamb will be hosting a new series of Bank Job, the game show set in a bank vault. Then at 10pm, Mark Dolan will be wading through the best adverts on TV in The Mad Bad Ad Show with Mickey Flanagan and Mark Watson.

BBC4 will be dedicating a night to Jazz starting with Jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins from 9pm. Arena: Sonny Rollins – beyond the Notes is a documentary looking at Rollin’s influence on Jazz music throughout the 20th century and is followed by Arena: Sonny Rollins ’74 – Rescued at 10pm.
