How do I get Freeview throughout my house with one aerial?
Unless your television has a Freeview tuner built-in (most newer flat screen TVs do) then, each television requires its own digital box if you wish to view different channels on each set.
If the signal to each TV or set-top box is not strong enough then you may lose some or all channels. In this case make sure your cables are in good condition to prevent signal loss. If there is still a problem then you may need a signal booster or amplifier to distribute a strong signal to every room. You may also be able to use a portable aerial in some cases, as long as you are in a good coverage area and can place the aerial to pick up a strong signal. Find out more on the Ricability website where you will find independent reviews of portable aerials.
Is it possible to have only one set top box for two televisions?
It is, but at present you will only be able to view the same Freeview channel on each set. This is because currently, digital boxes are not able to feed separate channels to multiple televisions.
You may find that a signal splitter, which would allow you to use a second digital box using the same aerial, is a more flexible option. This is only suitable if the television signal you are receiving is strong enough.
For more information, we recommend speaking to your local electrical retailer.
Is the strength of the signal received through an aerial weakened or diluted by the number of television sets it feeds?
Yes, it may be. If you are experiencing persistent bad reception, we recommend fitting amplifiers within your system to boost signal strength around the house. You can get these from your local electrical retailer or preferably, we recommend getting in touch with the following organizations who can give you details of one or more members who operate in your area and guarantee their work:
