FAQs

How do I get Freeview? Read answer

It is easy to get Freeview, most new TVs come with Freeview built-in, here are some ways you can get Freeview with your existing TV.

A digital box plugs into the back of your TV via a scart socket. Boxes start from around £20.

If your TV does not have a scart socket, you can buy a digital box that contains a RF modulator and output which allows you to connect to the RF socket on your TV. (Please check with your electrical retailer as only a few boxes are set up this way).

Freeview+ digital TV recorders also have Freeview inside and allow you to pause, record and rewind live TV.

Do I need a subscription to get Freeview? Read answer

You do not need to subscribe to Freeview; there is only a one off payment and no contract to sign. All you need to do is check you are in a Freeview coverage  area before you buy a digital box or digital TV.

If are not in coverage now then you may need to wait for the digital TV switchover. The whole of the UK will go digital between 2008-12. When your area goes digital, you should be able to see the Freeview channels.

Can I get Freeview through my satellite dish? Read answer

Freeview is only available through the digital terrestrial television system, that is, through an aerial.

If you are in a Freeview coverage area (see coverage checker below) you may find that your existing TV has Freeview built-in or alternatively you can invest in a digital box from around £20 which will enable you to watch Freeview through your current TV.

Free to view channels are available through a satellite service provider such as Freesat from the BBC & ITV or Freesat from Sky.

To contact Freesat from Sky call 0870 6061111 or to contact Freesat from BBC & ITV call 0845 313 0052.
