Getting Freeview & Coverage

Can everyone receive it? How do I find out if I can?

73% of the UK population are able to receive Freeview. However, just like analogue TV, some people might be in an area, which transmissions do not reach and are unable to receive digital signals. Some people will need an aerial upgrade, as many TV aerials and the cables that connect them to the TV, are old and damaged.

To find out whether you are in a coverage area, carry out a postcode check.

The Freeview Postcode checker gives you a good indication of whether you'll be able to receive Freeview. However it is not a guarantee but a prediction based on an area 100 square metres around your postcode. There might be some properties where Freeview cannot be received, because of the exact location of the property and other local factors.

We recommend that you check with your retailer that you can get a refund on your set top box, if these local factors prevent you from receiving Freeview. In our experience, retailers understand the issues surrounding predictive coverage and are therefore often willing to provide full refunds to customers who find themselves unable to receive Freeview channels after making a purchase
