About Digital TV

Why can't I get coverage?

At the moment, although coverage exceeds 73% of the UK population, which means there some areas where Freeview cannot be received, particularly those where analogue TV is supplied by a local relay transmitter.

The Government's aim is to achieve full switchover from analogue to digital television by 2012 and on 15th September 2005, it announced the timetable for switchover from analogue to digital television, which will occur in stages, ITV region by ITV region between 2007 and 2012.

The planned dates for switchover in the different areas of the country are as follows:

  • 2007 - Whitehaven in Cumbria
  • 2008 - Border
  • 2009 - West Country, HTV Wales, Granada
  • 2010 - Grampian, HTV West, Scottish TV
  • 2011 - Central, Yorkshire, Anglia
  • 2012 - Meridian, Carlton/LWT, Tyne Tees, Ulster
