Freeview re-launches website with new TV Guide featuring catch up TV links

Posted March 28, 2013 - Press Releases

Today, Freeview, the UK’s biggest digital television provider, has re-launched its website and has introduced links to catch up TV services provided by the main broadcasters.   Developed by Grand Union, visitors to the site will now be able to scroll backwards through the online programme guide and click straight through to catch up content on BBC iPlayer, the ITV Hub, 4OD and Demand Five.

Adrian Mack, New Media Manager at Freeview comments:

“Before redeveloping the site we conducted research to find out what people thought of the existing site and what improvements they’d like to see. Overall satisfaction was high but we have tried to implement the changes that would make a real difference to people who use the site.

“Our TV guide is hugely popular and this update makes the user journey simpler and easy to navigate. Visitors will now have easy access to catch up content via our new TV guide, instead of having to visit multiple websites and all without the need for a subscription.”

Aside from the enhanced TV Guide with links to catch up TV, other changes to the website include:

  • Personalised TV Guide: visitors are able to choose their favourite channels and have programme information for only those channels displayed in the TV Guide
  • Improved navigation: there is now a drop down navigation menu which illustrates what is available, making it easier for visitors to get to key information
  • Shortlists of key products such as Freeview+ HD and Freeview HD TVs based on customer reviews from Reevoo
  • A more dynamic news and features page, with all the latest developments at Freeview in one place

There are also plans to add richer pages for all channels in the coming weeks. This will incorporate live streaming and catch up links as well as the latest programme trailers.

Digital agency, Grand Union completed the redevelopment.  Business director, John Goodbody comments:

“As well as overhauling the site infrastructure, the key task for our team was to make the site easier for users to navigate. Approximately 250,000 people visit the online TV guide per month, so we have made it easier for them to find out what’s on as well as making the Freeview offer clear.

“The look of the new site is clean and contemporary and is an exciting launch pad for us to continue to develop new content.”
