Over the last few years, Freeview has been growing – so much so that the TV guide is bursting at the seams. To make room for new channels we are updating the TV guide on 2 August. All you need to do is retune in the afternoon or evening to get the full refreshed line up. Most modern TVs will prompt you to retune when the changes are made or if you have an older product then you need to follow the retune instructions below.

Here are the main changes you will see, with the full list below.

The Children’s channels will move to 201-229
The News channels will move to 231-249
The Text channels will move to 250-259
The Streamed channels will move to 260-299
The Adult channels will move to 670-699

In the last year, for example, we have added channels like BLAZE, with the hit series Vikings; and Quest Red, specialising in irresistibly real TV, plus Channel 5 HD and many more.

See the full list of Freeview channels that will be changing their number in the TV guide below.

How to retune

To retune you need to press ‘Menu’ on your remote control and follow the on-screen instructions or those printed in your manual. What happens next may vary slightly depending on which TV, recorder or set top box you have.

A typical sequence is:

  1. Press menu on your box or TV remote control
  2. Now select set-up, installation, update or similar option. If you’re asked for a password the default code is 1234 or 0000
  3. Now select the ‘first time installation’ option (sometimes called ‘factory reset’, ‘full retune’ or ‘default settings’). Press ‘OK’ if your equipment asks if it is OK to delete existing channels. This will clear your existing settings and find the new channel line-up. If prompted then save the channels that are found
