Essential work is sometimes carried out by the Transmitter infrastructure owner Arqiva to maintain and improve the network’s reliability. It’s typically done outside peak viewing times to minimise disruption.
During periods of planned work, please avoid retuning your TV, as this can cause loss of all saved channels, requiring a further retune once work is complete.
A full list of transmitters with scheduled maintenance for the coming week is available on our Planned Engineering page (updated every Monday). Due to the nature of this work we are unable to provide exact timings as these may change at short notice, often due to:
- Weather (e.g. wind, rain, fog, or extreme temperatures)
- Technical challenges (e.g. antenna upgrades, equipment issues, or coverage testing)
- Site issues (e.g. access problems, planning delays, or unexpected conditions)
For more accurate and up-to-date information about maintenance in your area, if your local transmitter is listed on our "Planned Engineering works" page we recommend using our Online Diagnostic tool available on our help homepage by selecting the “Problems watching Freeview” option on our Help homepage. This tool provides real-time updates on when planned work is in progress and when it has been completed for your local transmitter. Simply follow the on-screen instructions, and you’ll receive the latest information specific to your location, helping you avoid unnecessary retunes and stay informed about any service interruptions.
