May is when the 2016 TV ranges hit the shops, so this coming Bank Holiday is a great time to check out what’s new. Everywhere you look there will be 4K TVs – the odd thing being that there is still very little 4K content. Fortunately, these TVs all include Freeview HD which looks great on the big screen with more realistic colour and lifelike detail.
You will also start to see the letters ‘HDR’ bandied around – this stands for high dynamic range. The good news is that this clever bit of technology boosts the brightness and contrast of the picture whatever you are watching so makes for a more involving experience.
Best of all (ok we’re biased) is Freeview Play which adds catch up to the TV guide so you can quickly find the shows that everyone is talking about. There is lots more on demand from the Freeview Play apps page such as exclusive content on BBC iPlayer and boxsets on All4.
Leading the way here is Panasonic’s 2016 range (below). LG will be joining the party in 2016 – the TVs listed will upgrade to Freeview Play later in 2016 so you can buy now safe in the knowledge they are future-proofed.
Samsung will have a strong line up including more curves (the jury is still out on Curved TVs) whilst Sony have a massive 75” TV
First up is the incredible new range from Panasonic, all of which feature Freeview Play as standard.
