TV so good it would be a crime to miss it

Filled with suspense, intrigue and brilliant characters, there’s been a spree of completely gripping crime dramas on TV recently. Dark, brooding and dangerously compelling, they’ve been spotted on all channels.

To help you identify the prime suspects, we felt it was our duty to line up our current favourites.

In fact there is a bit of a clash this Saturday – you will need a Freeview recorder to keep up.

Endeavour – ITV 8pm Saturday

Set in the 1960s, this Inspector Morse prequel may look all cobble stone walking, real ale drinking period drama, but don’t let that fool you, it’s gripping TV. Following a young Morse in his early years as a police constable it does far more than endeavour to thrill. Which will explain why filming has already begun on a fourth series, set to air in 2017.

NCIS – Channel 5, next on Saturday 9pm

After 13 series and two spin off series, NCIS is still going very strong. This huge hit of a US drama is on Channel 5 almost constantly and we genuinely couldn’t be happier about it. Along with the original, there’s NCIS: Los Angeles, starring Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J, and NCIS: New Orleans, which features Scott Bakula of Quantum Leap fame. It’s never too late to get involved with this TV institution.

The Disappearance – BBC Four 9pm Saturday

Following in the footsteps of other ludicrously good TV from the continent, The Disappearance is a French adaptation of Spanish series Desaparecida and tells the story of a missing teenager. Because we don’t want to ruin it for you if you’ve yet to watch it, all we’ll say is that the only thing you can take for granted in this fantastic series is that nothing is what it seems. Make sure you catch it before it disappears for good.

Murdoch Mysteries – Drama, next on Saturday 12pm

Based on Maureen Jennings’ award-winning novels, Murdoch Mysteries follows detective William Murdoch in 20th century Toronto as he tries to solve some of the city’s most gruesome murders. Already on its ninth series, and with a tenth on the way, you’ve got plenty to catch up on if you’ve yet to discover this TV gold.

Just in case we’ve missed the series you were looking for, below is a list of other crime series currently airing on Freeview.

New Blood – BBC One, 9pm Thursday
Midsomer Murders – ITV, 4:30pm Sunday
Murder, She Wrote – ITV3, 7pm Friday
CSI – 5 USA, 9pm Sunday
