Posted May 4, 2016 - Features

Channel 5 HD is coming to Freeview for the first time on 4 May. Which means you can now get all five terrestrial HD channels in consecutive order – a Freeview exclusive! So now you’ll be able to enjoy a whole host of amazing television in spectacular high definition all in one place.

To celebrate, and to help you get the most out of our new line up, we’ve picked some of our favourite shows coming to Freeview on Channel 5 HD.

The Gadget Show
Fridays at 7pm

Jason and the team have been putting the latest consumer gadgets through their paces since 2004. 23 series later, they’re still bringing us reviews of the best, and craziest, ideas the tech world has to offer. Along the way they’ve even set several world records, including the largest game of Tetris ever! Their records aren’t the only things of epic proportions though. Their regular competitions offer so many prizes that the house of any winner will look like the villain’s lair in a superhero film.

Monday at 10pm

Talking of superheroes… Gotham is a seriously cool, dark drama, and a must watch. And not just for comic books fans. Now into its second series, it explores the origins of some of DC Comics best known super villains and vigilantes, bringing to life an entirely new chapter of the story. While it stars Ben McKenzie as commissioner-to-be James Gordon and Sean Pertwee as Alfred the Butler, it’s the villains in training who steal the show, especially Robin Lord Taylor as the avian bad guy, Penguin.

The Yorkshire Vet
Tuesday at 8pm

This unassuming and heart-warming documentary series, which follows life in a North Yorkshire veterinary practice, has been an unexpected hit with audiences since it started, with 1.2 million viewers tuning in for the first episode.
Now in its second series, it captures the daily drama that unfolds around the Skeldale Veterinary Centre in Thirsk, the real-life home of TVs most famous vet, James Herriot. Tune in on Tuesdays from 8pm for a slice of country life.

Police Interceptors
Monday at 8pm

With performance patrol cars, cutting-edge tech and highly trained dog units (not to mention helicopters!), Police Interceptors is a documentary full of high-octane drama. Following officers from elite police units around the country as they tackle lawbreakers, this unrestricted view of everyday life is as compelling as it is thrilling. Currently in its ninth series, you’re sure to be hooked quicker than the souped up patrol cars can reach 60mph.

Saturday at 7pm

If you’ve not seen an episode of NCIS, where have you been?! The hit US drama is TV at its gripping best.
Revolving around a team of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which investigates crimes involving the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, it’s been going for 13 series and has spawned two spin off shows (NCIS Los Angeles and NCIS New Orleans). You can get caught up in the action every Saturday night at 8pm.

Henry VIII And His Six Wives
Friday at 8pm

Suzannah Lipscomb and Dan Jones bring to life the passionate story of England’s most notorious king in a pioneering retelling of the life of Henry VIII. Through dramatic reconstructions, this new series sees the two presenters bring the scandal, romance and tragedy that characterised Henry, his wives and reign to life like never before. A distinctively unique look at a captivating story we all think we know.

Ben Fogle: The Great African Migration
Tuesday at 7pm

In his latest adventure, Ben Fogle spends a year following one of the largest mammal migrations on the planet – a herd of 1.3 million wildebeest in East Africa. This four-part series follows Ben as he learns about the ecosystem of herbivores, predators and people that call the massive grasslands of the Serengeti home, and sees plenty of mind-blowing footage of these massive herds on their journey. A must for all you nature lovers out there.

That’s just a taster of the great shows you can catch on Channel 5 HD though. With upcoming comedy Borderline and drama series Suspects alongside quality US shows like The X-Files, award-winning children’s TV strand Milkshake! and their news service, 5 News, you’re sure to find a program you’ll love on Freeview channel 105.
