UKTV launches new channel ‘Drama’ on Freeview

Great news for Freeview-ers everywhere as yesterday UKTV announced a brand new channel featuring Britain’s most high profile dramas. Aptly named ‘Drama,’ the channel with launch on 8th July on channel 20 and will be packed full of famous faces and critically-acclaimed shows.

You can expect to see the likes of Colin Firth in the mini-series of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, an early appearance by Catherine Zeta-Jones in Catherine Cookson’s The Cinder Path and a swashbuckling Sean Bean in Sharpe. Other shows include Tipping the Velvet, Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Cranford and Lark Rise to Candleford.

UKTV Controller Emma Tennant, said: “The channel is aimed at people who simply love drama and want to watch critically-acclaimed shows that have absolutely defined the landscape of British television. I am very passionate about the subject and discussing the programmes that will create Drama’s schedule has just been brilliant fun. I’m genuinely excited about the launch of Drama both as a viewer and as Controller.”
