Sony Movie Channel’s Action Season: The Best Action Blockbusters this September

Posted September 7, 2018 - Blog Posts,News and Blog

Do you love death-defying car chases, explosions that topple entire cities, and the occasional brooding stare? Then you’re in luck! This September (7th-23rd), the Sony Movie Channel is showcasing the very best action blockbusters every night at 9pm.

Here’s our pick of the movies you’ll not want to miss.

Charlie’s Angels

Friday 7 September

The action genre is pretty much dominated by muscle-bound men in white vests. However, this female fronted blockbuster starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Lui bucks this trend, and shows that women can kick butt just as much as the guys. The story itself focuses on a trio of private investigators, aka The Angels, as they use their martial arts skills and high-tech gadgetry to find a kidnapped computer genius.

White House Down

Saturday 8 September

If you’re thinking “this kind of looks like Die Hard in the White House”, then you’d be 100% right! It stars Channing Tatum as a cop caught in the middle of a siege at the White House. Here, he not only has to protect his daughter from armed terrorists, but also the President of The United States of America (played by the rather cool Jamie Fox). Of course, being the hero, he manages to fight off the bad guys and save the day. Mr Tatum, we salute you!

Total Recall
Friday 14 September

Colin Farrell stars as a factory worker, bored with life, who pays a shady company to turn his spy dream into a memory. However, reality and fantasy start to blur and it’s not long before he’s being shot at by government officials and being rescued by a glamorous rebel fighter. Although borrowing from sci-fi (the visuals have clearly been influenced by Bladerunner), this action thriller is really about the great fight scenes and even better futuristic car chases.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse

Monday 10 September

This hugely popular franchise owes much of its success to the way it blends traditional elements of horror with fast-paced action. In this second movie, Alice wakes up to discover that the virus she fought to destroy has been unleashed on Racoon City. She’s also had a bit of a genetic upgrade – improved speed, strength, and who knows what else. However, all she really knows is that she must end the deadly virus that threatens humanity. Plenty of action, plenty of scares, and a great score if you like your electronic music.

From Dusk Till Dawn
Thursday 13 September

Two bank robbers walk into a bar. No, this isn’t the beginning of a bad joke, it’s the ingenious plot to Robert Rodriguez’s action horror classic. Wanted fugitives Seth (George Clooney) and his unhinged brother Richard (Quentin Tarantino) wait for a contact in a seedy bar in Mexico. However, expensive drinks aren’t the only dangerous thing on the menu. The bar’s run by vampires who think nothing of feasting on their unsuspecting patrons.

A must-see for any-one who likes a bit of action, suspense and gore. Plus, with a stellar cast which also includes Juliette Lewis, Harvey Keitel, and Salma Hayek, the performances are top-notch too.

Saturday 15 September

If you think the Mayans knew a thing or two about the end of the world (rather than think they just need a new calendar), then you’re probably going to love this action adventure. It follows a failed writer (played by John Cusack), as he strives to save his family whilst the world collapses around him. And, just in case you need a bit of moral outrage in your movies, it turns out the super-rich have a backup plan for their survival – typical!
