The Paramount Network has launched on Freeview

Posted July 4, 2018 - Blog Posts,News and Blog

The Paramount Network has officially launched on Freeview’s channel 57 today. Brought to you from the iconic Hollywood Studio, the network will be home to some of the brightest stars, high quality television, and blockbuster movies.

Here’s a selection of what’s going to be on offer.

Agent Carter:
Starting tonight, 8:00pm

Inspired by the first Capital America movie, this action-drama sees Hayley Atwell reprise her role as Peggy Carter. It’s 1940s America and Peggy’s doing admin work for the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR). However, feeling like her skills are underappreciated, she teams up with the enigmatic Howard Stark (dad of Tony Stark, aka Iron Man), to help prove he’s not selling weapons to America’s enemies.

Alongside Hayley Atwell, there’s also great performances from Dominic Cooper, James D’Arcy, and Shea Whigham.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen:
Tonight, 9:00pm

Directed by Michael Bay, this movie is the definition of a blockbuster. There’s robots fighting robots, explosions being set off at every turn, and dialogue that is cheesy but seems about right for a summer blockbuster “We’ve shed blood, sweat, and precious metal together”.  And, like the first Transformers movie, the fate of the world is once again in the hands of Optimus Prime and co. All in all, it’s highly enjoyable fun that requires very few brain cells.

Starting Tuesday 10th July, 9:00pm

You’ve likely heard of Suits not least because it stars our new princess Meghan Markle. However, if you’ve never watched the show, it’s the perfect time to find out what all the buzz is about. The show follows Mike Ross, a street-smart associate in the high stakes world of Manhattan corporate law. He’s a legal prodigy with a photographic memory, but he’s got a big secret – he’s got no legal qualifications whatsoever.

Paramount Network is showing the critically acclaimed drama’s seventh series (the first time on free-to-air TV), as well as allowing fans a chance to catch-up with the show from the very beginning.

Designated Survivor:
Coming soon

After an explosion kills the US President and almost all of his Cabinet, the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Tom Kirkman (played by Kiefer Sutherland) is immediately sworn in as president. There’s lots of tension as the new president struggles with being thrust into the spotlight, as well as the reality that the attack might just be the beginning.

If you’re a fan of shows like the West Wing, House of Cards, 24, this could be for you.

The Mick

If you like your humour off-the-wall, this US sitcom will deliver. Starring Kaitlin Olsen (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), the show centres on Mackenzie “Mickey” Molng, a highly irresponsible thirty-something who’s been left to look after her nieces and nephew after their parents go on the run.

Lip Sync Battle US

Hosted by LL Cool J and Chrissy Tegan, the show has become a cultural phenomenon in the US. The premise is simple: two celebs, armed with their favourite song, do battle in the art of lip syncing. It’s both incredibly silly and addictive as big-name stars such as Rob Schneider, Michael Bolton, and Rita Ora line-up to make fools of themselves.

Gilmore Girls

The tale of single mum Lorelai and daughter Rory as they go about their lives in the picturesque town of Stars Hollow is both emotional and hilariously funny.  And with a town filled with loveable and eccentric characters, it’s no wonder it’s been popular with audiences across the globe for over 15 years. Watch out for local chef Sookie St James, played by the wonderful Melissa McCarthy.

Some viewers may need to retune their TVs to get access to the Paramount Network, if you are having trouble you can find more information on how to retune here: Retuning your Equipment.
